We recommend you use the soft insert for intermediate and final grinding where you are working with fine grits. The fine sanding papers together with the soft liner ensure that your sanding will always have top results, and the surface will be ready for further finishing or refinishing.
On the other hand, when pre-grinding, where more material needs to be removed and you are working with coarser grits, or when using a sanding felt, it is better to work without a soft insert so that the abrasive can remove material more efficiently and quickly.
