Frequently Asked Questions
Clamps are used to clamp or press objects firmly together (e.g. when gluing wood, cutting and machining material). Stahovákovky or knechts are used to make wooden joints. They have a larger span than conventional joinery clamps and a high clamping force. Tools for removing components, most often in car repair (e.g. removing bearings from a shaft), are also referred to as pullers.
- Screw clamps reach a maximum clamping force of up to 1000 kg.
- Lever clamps are manufactured with a clamping force of 20 to 250 kg.
- Spring clamps offer a clamping force of around 20 kg.
- The length of the clamp indicates the spacing between the jaws. In the case of ordinary joinery clamps, it reaches 10-50 cm, while cabinet clamps are over 2 metres long.
- The depth of the clamp (length of unloading) indicates the distance from the edge of the jaw to the body of the clamp. You can usually buy clamps with a depth of 6 to 30 cm.
C- and F-shaped clamps are most commonly used.
- Type C clamps have a solid C-shaped frame and only the helix with the foot slides out.
- F-clamps are F-shaped and the entire lower arm is sliding.
Clamps are most often made of steel or various alloys. The jaws are usually protected by plastic or rubber pads to prevent damage to the clamped object. The handle can be wooden. Lever clamps have a metal body and plastic arms. You will also come across all-plastic clamps, but these have little clamping force.
