This abrasive belt is coated with noble corundum grain, a form of aluminium oxide known for its hardness and wear resistance. Corundum grains are excellent for cutting and grinding because they are hard and sharp.

The use of a material that is active in the grinding process means that the belt has properties that help to remove material more efficiently and reduce heating of the grinding surface. This is particularly important when grinding stainless steel, as overheating can lead to changes in the microstructure of the material and can adversely affect its properties.
